Paul Smaldino

Assistant Professor of Cognitive and Information Sciences, University of California, Merced

Paul-Smaldino-metascience2019Paul Smaldino is assistant professor of Cognitive and Information Sciences at UC Merced, and is also a faculty member in the Quantitative and Systems Biology graduate group there. He has a BA in physics and graduate degrees in psychology. His postdoctoral training includes time served in departments of medicine, anthropology, political science, and computer science. In his pre-academic life Paul worked at various points as an immunology lab tech, an audio engineer, a movie production assistant, a film transfer tech, a lead guitarist, a high school math tutor, a textbook copy editor, and a psychiatric nurse’s aide. His work hours are now primarily spent building mathematical models and computer simulations of social dynamics and cultural evolution.
